The 26th National Film Festival in Tangier will not take place in October 2026. The Moroccan Cinematographic Centre (CCM) has postponed the event, originally scheduled for 23 to 31 October, to March 2027.

The CCM says it responded to requests from professional organisations and people working in the sector. According to the Centre, the calendar of national and international festivals is crowded in October, which could limit the participation of professionals and Moroccan films. It adds that several major international festivals require unreleased works.

The CCM presents the new date as the first major film event of the year, opening a national film season that ends with the Marrakech International Film Festival.

Applications already submitted remain valid

In a statement on candidate films, the CCM says that films whose applications have already been submitted remain registered. Their rights holders will be able to finalise the final copies under procedures and deadlines to be announced later.

A new submission period to come

Applications have not closed for films that have yet to be submitted. The CCM plans to open a new submission period, with dates, duration and procedures to be given in a future statement.
